Boruto has flipped the script to the classic Naruto-Sasuke dynamic and also deepened the mystery of the Kawaki’s heel turn.

Despite that he initially was positioning Kawaki as a villain who wrecked the Hidden Leaf Village, Boruto series are changing those things drastically.

Now, he is a brother to Boruto and someone who wants to genuinely look out for Hokage. It left many confused as to how will he break bad in the future, especially as his oppressor, Isshiki is gone at the moment.

The manga actually has many ways to go before revealing the actual truth behind everything and it manages to capture the real image of Naruto and Sasuke’d old rivalry. This only adds more to the mystery of the Kawaki’s eventual heel turn.

At the end of Chapter 55, Kawaki will make it clear to Boruto that he’ll be on his side no matter what happens. He will do everything to get rid of the Momoshiki’s essence, which was poisoning Boruto and cure him.

That is basically what makes Kawaki a great guy, completely opposite situation than we all expected to see.
